If you’ve ever wanted a new perspective on Northern Ireland then a Scenic Flight is for you. Flights of 30 to 90 minutes are available for sightseeing and up to three people can fly in the same aircraft.
These flights can be bought as gift vouchers for family and friends and can be used at any time up to the expiry date on the voucher subject to weather conditions, aircraft and pilot availability.
Scenic Flights are legally operated as introductory flights and are not able to be counted towards the issuance of a private pilot’s licence (PPL). For people who are interested in becoming a pilot, we also provide Trial Lessons which will count towards PPL training if you choose to continue.
Where could we fly?
- Over Strangford Lough to Portaferry and back over the Ards Peninsula (30 minutes)
- Bangor, Holywood and East Belfast (30 minutes)
- Downpatrick, Portaferry and back over the Ards Peninsula (45 minutes)
- Bangor, Belfast and Lisburn (45 minutes)
- Newcastle and the Mourne Mountains (60 minutes)

You are welcome to request a route to the pilot on the day of your flight and they will do their best to honour it, however not all routes are possible every day due to weather and Air Traffic Control restrictions.
How many people can fly?
Our four seat Cessna 172 aircraft can seat three passengers and our two seat Cessna 152 aircraft can seat one passenger.
Are there any restrictions on the flights?
If a child under the age of 14 would like to fly without an adult or any passengers are over 83kg (13st) please call us to discuss the available options before purchasing a flight.
I have a gift voucher for a flight, how do I book in?
Telephone the UFC on 028 9181 3327 or call in and see us. You will need to quote the voucher number. We will do our best to accommodate your desired date and time, however this may not be possible due to aircraft and pilot availability.
On the day
Telephone the UFC on 028 9181 3327 at least an hour before your flight is booked to ensure the weather conditions are permissible for your flight. Sometimes flights must be cancelled at short notice as the weather changes. If this happens, you will be re-booked for a new date and time.
Directions to the club can be found at the bottom of our main page here. The club has ample parking available and is on the Ulsterbus routes 9 and 10 between Belfast, Newtownards and Portaferry. Bring your gift voucher with you to the main office to check in.
Once the introductions between you and the pilot are over, each person flying will be given a headset to wear during the flight; this allows the pilot to talk to Air Traffic Control and passengers to talk to each other during the flight.
Ensure you bring a camera and sunglasses to make the most of the views.
My gift voucher is about to expire, can I extend it?
Yes, gift vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of purchase but we can extend the voucher. It will cost £30.00 per month of extension required.
Is the Ulster Flying Club insured?
Yes, the UFC carries full insurance on all of the aircraft they operate.
To what level are our Instructors / Pilots trained?
All UFC Instructors / Pilots are trained to full Civil Aviation Authority standards.
